Arrival, Paramount Pictures
After hearing lots of good things about this movie, I was finally able to watch it yesterday. Did I like it? Oh yes!! But, let me be clear, this is not your typical “Independence day” kind of alien invasion sci-fi movie. The whole movie is centered around a linguist played by Amy Adams who tries to understand why the aliens are here. Her acting was superb. Another important character is a theoretical physicist. I have to say, I was expecting more from the physicist. This was probably the only weak point of the storyline. Physicists are usually better in problem solving and the writer did not really use him to do that. Having said that, Jeremy Renner did an excellent job playing this role. I can’t tell you what I liked the most in the movie, that will spoil it.
If you like a slow paced movie with stunning visuals, like solving puzzles and if you expect a cerebral and emotional experience from a movie, you will love it. I think, this is one of the best movies of this year.
