A second full moon in one calendar month is called a blue moon. Last night’s (July 31st’s) full moon was a blue moon as the first full moon of this month happened on July 2nd. Although the media is highlighting it as a very rare astronomical event, it is not that rare after all. It happens in about every 30 months. Nevertheless, many photographers and astronomy enthusiasts went out to celebrate. #NasaBlueMoon was the official NASA hashtag for this event.
